Look Deep Into Nature
No, Art does not detract from reality at all…. If anything it adds a new perspective to our realities. I would even argue that art creates our reality. In my reality everyone is an artist and a few uf us are even lucky enough to practice their art for a living. Art is a form of expression and communication. In essence, art is who we are, who we were and who we are becoming. Art is the moment of time carried through time. It is our ignorance of art that takes us away from reality. We ARE living art. Science & math, or painting & sculpting, which pair are arts(?) I see both a different equals, but hey, maybe that's just me. I see a chef, creating in the kitchen, he's an artist using the paints from the garden. The paints from the garden being the art of the farmer. I can go on and on… Music? I need to write a book…

Just Living Is Not Enough
It would depend on the type of are you are talking about. If you are speaking about visual art such as paintings, I think you could definitely get lost in a really good painting. That is why there are benches in front of paintings at museums. You can sit and get lost in the painting. Whenever I am in a museum I do feel out of touch with reality to an extent. There is always a little bit of tension because of the enormous amounts of energy that are emanating from the artworks. There is probably not any feeling that is comprable to this feeling except being out somewhere breathtakingly beautiful. What is reality anyway?

Adopt the pace of Nature
Whenever we analyze the meaning and significance of a work of art, we become absorbed in a world of our own making, full of symbolism and imagined scenarios. Of course, the degree to which one is lost in his thoughts is a decision of his own making. Some think this is a problem, but others instead positively interpret art as a source of inspiration, a Muse to great thinkers. I am of the opinion that it can be both.

Go Along With the Nature
Art is the only way you know what ‘reality’ is. All perceptions are pictures. The light in our eyes is actually ‘upside down’, for instance. The only way we can know anything about what we are looking at, listening to or participating in is to re-present it to ourselves deliberately. This is what all art is - ‘the universe and our existence in it - in review’. Of course, such representation is what perception is in the first place. When we consider this obvious fact, it becomes clear that art is actually the evidence for everything - because it is what shows how we show things - and that is how realisation works.
